One to One
This course focuses on developing your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills providing you with the confidence and skills you need to communicate effectively in English. Every level from start to finish is 12 weeks. At the end of your 12-week course, you complete the final progress test and attend a tutorial session with your teacher to discuss your progress and whether you feel ready to join the next level. If you are starting at beginner level (A1) and want to progress to advanced (C1), then you would be enrolled for a total of 72 weeks.

This course is suitable for anyone wanting to start learning English or improve their current level of English.
Different LevelsThere are 6 different levels for General English, from A1 (beginner) to C2 (proficient).
Beginner (A1)At this level you learn basic vocabulary and sentence structure to allow you to start communicating in English. Functions such as asking for directions, telling the time and understanding and using numbers correctly are taught at this level. The syllabus includes a variety of topics such as family life, holidays, leisure, work and jobs and the essential vocabulary and grammar to communicate about them in a variety of situations.
Elementary (A2)At this level you consolidate the foundations of A1 and are introduced to more complex structures of English language. These include modal verbs, a variety of verb tenses to enable you to talk about events at different times and word classes to expand your vocabulary. You learn to describe past experiences and to make requests in a variety of topics including education, hobbies and interests and shopping.
Pre-intermediate (B1 -)At this level you learn to maintain a basic conversation such as responding to questions about yourself and your life by developing listening skills and the ability to respond promptly. You learn a variety of grammar and vocabulary to allow you to communicate effectively in a range of everyday social and travel contexts such as booking a hotel room, asking for information and expressing opinions using language to agree and disagree.
Intermediate (B1 +)At this level you learn to develop and expand your lexis to speak English more confidently. You gain a deeper understanding of collocation and lexical patterns to expand your vocabulary. The different ways to express the future, conditionals and passive voice as well as colloquial language are covered at this level. You practise language in a variety of contexts such as books and literature, media and news and current affairs.
Upper-intermediate (B2)At this level you review the grammatical tenses taught at B1+ as well as practise more complex language patterns such as relative clauses, mixed conditionals and a wider variety of phrasal verbs. You participate in extended role-plays and have the opportunity to write short essays using a variety of formulaic language for academic writing. Functions such as critiquing and reviewing, describing feelings and emotions and expressing abstract ideas are covered at this level. You work in a variety of contexts such as the arts, books and literature, film and media.
Advanced (C1)At this level you explore complex language structures such as inversion with negative adverbials and learn to use mixed conditionals in the past, present and future. You delve into the differences between formal and informal language both in speech and in writing and explore the meaning of idiomatic expressions. A large amount of time is spent on expanding your vocabulary using split phrasal verbs and vague language. Functions such as expressing certainty, doubt and probability, hedging and speculating are covered at this level. You work in a variety of contexts such as the arts, books and literature, scientific development and technical and legal language.
Proficient (C2)At this level language taught at C1 is reviewed for consolidation and to ensure you have a complete understanding of what has been covered at lower levels. You increase your understanding of the nuances of the language and engage in independent reading and research to develop your vocabulary further. You take part in debates and learn the uses of persuasive language and how to develop an argument systematically. You are encouraged to express yourself spontaneously and fluently and you are exposed to language which requires differentiating finer shades of meaning for detailed comprehension. You work in a variety of contexts such as the arts, books and literature, scientific development and technical and legal language.
